Homestead + Hempcrete
Montana Huis
Designed for a young couple to balance work and living off the land, this 2,500 square foot dwelling embraces nature in both materiality and layout.
The dwelling is primarily made up of wood and hempcrete; a mixture of hemp, lime, and water. The building is south-facing and allows sunlight to stream into the main living area. Operable glass doors allow occupants to be a part of nature.
The ground floor is comprised of both the primary bedroom and living area while the loft offers additional sleeping quarters, an office, and a lounge area. Two light wells in the roof are a unique feature of the loft and provide extra daylighting.
Overall the dwelling’s open floor plan and spacious communal areas create a beautiful space to host social gatherings and take in the environment both internally and externally from the building.
